Glutathione: The amino acid that prevent oxidative stress in most cells and helps to trap free radicals that can damage DNA and RNA.

Glutathione is actually a compound classified as a tripeptide made up the amino acids gamma-glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine and is also known as gamma-glutamylcysteinylglycine or GSH.  Like carnitine, glutathione is not technically one of the amino acids. It is a compound classified as a tripeptide, and the body produces it from the amino acids cysteine, glutamic acid, and glycine. Because of its close relationship to these amino acids, however, it is usually considered together with them.

The primary biological function of glutathione is to act as a non-enzymatic reducing agent to help keep cysteine thiol side chains in a reduced state on the surface of proteins. Glutathione is also used to prevent oxidative stress in most cells and helps to trap free radicals that can damage DNA and RNA. There is a direct correlation with the speed of aging and the reduction of glutathione concentrations in intracellular fluids. As individuals grow older, glutathione levels drop, and the ability to detoxify free radicals decreases.

Supplemental glutathione is expensive, and the effectiveness of oral formulas is questionable. To raise glutathione levels, it is better to supply the body with the raw materials it uses to make this compound: cysteine, glutamic acid, and glycine. The N-acetyl form of cysteine, N-acetylcysteine (NAC), is considered particularly effective for this purpose

Function and Benefits of Glutathione

  • Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant and detoxifies harmful compounds in the liver, which is then excreted through bile.
  • Glutathione is also found in the lungs and the intestinal tract. It is needed for carbohydrate metabolism and appears to exert anti-aging effects, aiding in the breakdown of oxidized fats that may contribute to atherosclerosis.
  • A significant component of the collective antioxidant defenses, and a highly potent antioxidant and antitoxin in its own right.
  • Glutathione is a very important detoxifying agent, enabling the body to get rid of undesirable toxins and pollutants. It forms a soluble compound with the toxin that can then be excreted through the urine or the gut.
  • Glutathione is required in many of the intricate steps needed to carry out an immune response. For example, it is needed for the lymphocytes to multiply in order to develop a strong immune response, and for ‘killer’ lymphocytes to be able to kill undesirable cells such as cancer cells or virally infected cells.
  • Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant that is produced in the liver. The largest stores of glutathione are found in the liver, where it detoxifies harmful compounds so that they can be excreted through the bile. Some glutathione is released from the liver directly into the bloodstream, where it helps to maintain the integrity of red blood cells and protect white blood cells.
  • lutathione is the major antioxidant produced by the cell, protecting it from ‘free radicals’ (‘oxygen radicals‘, ‘oxyradicals’). These highly reactive substances, if left unchecked, will damage or destroy key cell components (e.g. membranes, DNA) in microseconds. Glutathione recycles other well-known antioxidants such as vitamin C and vitamin E, keeping them in their active state.

Deficiency Symptoms of Glutathione

  • A deficiency of glutathione first affects the nervous system, causing such symptoms as lack of coordination, mental disorders, tremors, and difficulty maintaining balance. These problems are believed to be due to the development of lesions in the brain.
  • A study sponsored in part by the National Cancer Institute found that people with HIV disease who had low glutathione levels had a lower survival rate over a three-year period than those whose glutathione levels were normal. As we age, glutathione levels decline, although it is not known whether this is because we use it more rapidly or produce less of it to begin with. Unfortunately, if not corrected, the lack of glutathione in turn accelerates the aging process.

Rich Food Sources of Glutathione

avocado, watermelon, asparagus, grapefruit, potato, acorn squash, strawberries, orange, tomato, cantaloupe, broccoli, okra, peach, zucchini, spinach and walnut

Cysteine: The amino acid that helps to detoxify harmful toxins and protect the body from radiation damage.

Cysteine is a sulphur containing non-essential amino acid, which is formed from methionine. It is necessary in the detoxification of the body from harmful toxins. Cysteine helps protect the liver and brain from damage. It is required in the manufacture of taurine and is a component of glutathione. Skin nails and hair contain cysteine – and it is not only important in collagen production but also assists in skin elasticity and texture.

Cysteine and Cystine are closely related; each molecule of cystine consists of two molecules of cysteine joined together. Cysteine is very unstable and is easily converted to L-cystine; however, each form is capable of converting into the other as needed. Both are sulfur containing amino acids that aid in the formation of skin and are important in detoxification. Cysteine is present in alpha-keratin, the chief protein constituent of the fingernails, toenails, skin, and hair. Cysteine aids in the production of collagen and promotes the proper elasticity and texture of the skin. It is also found in a variety of other proteins in the body, including several of the digestive enzymes.

Function  and Benefits of Cysteine

  • It acts as precursor to glutathione which is an antioxidant. It therefore detoxifies the body from the free radical produced in the body which damages the cell membrane and DNA. The presence of these free radicals also results in number of disease like heart diseases or even cancers. So these needs to be eliminated which is done by cysteine.
  • Cysteine is closely related to cystine, as cystine consists of two cysteine molecules joined together
  • Cysteine is critical to the metabolism of a number of essential biochemicals – coenzyme A, heparin, biotin, lipoid acid, and glutathione
  • Cysteine is an unstable nutrient and easily converts to cystine, but this does not cause a problem, since both can convert into the other – as required by the body
  • Cysteine is needed for the skin and it performs detoxification action in the body as it is present in keratin which is the main protein found in the nails, hairs and skin.
  • Cysteine helps to detoxify harmful toxins and protect the body from radiation damage. It is one of the best free radical destroyers, and works best when taken with selenium and vitamin E.
  • Cysteine is also precursor to glutathione, a substance that detoxifies the liver by binding with potentially harmful substances there. It helps to protect the liver and brain from damage due to alcohol, drugs, and toxic compounds in cigarette smoke.
  • Stomach protection – cysteine has been found to help strengthen the protective lining of the stomach as well as intestines, which may help prevent damage caused by aspirin and similar drugs
  • Since cysteine is more soluble than cystine, it is used more readily in the body and is usually best for treating most illnesses. This amino acid is formed from L-methionine in the body. Vitamin B6, vitamin12 and folate are necessary for cysteine synthesis, which may not take place as it should in the presence of chronic disease.
Rich Food Sources of Cysteine
  • Foods of animal origin These are chicken, meat, turkey, eggs, meat, yogurt, cottage cheese, and whey proteins etc
  • Foods of plant origin: These include onion, broccoli, garlic, red pepper, sprouts, wheat, granola,  lentil and leafy greens etc.

Cysteine deficiency

  • No direct deficiencies have been reported, but in chronic diseases it seems the formation of cysteine from methionine can be prevented, resulting in a deficiency.
  • People on low protein diets – people who are not eating enough protein foods may not get enough cysteine in their diet

Cystine: The amino acid that functions as an antioxidant and is a powerful aid to the body in protecting against radiation and pollution.

Cystine is a nonessential amino acid (protein building block), meaning that cystine can be made in the human body.  Cystine is formed from methionine and is required for proper vitamin B6 utilisation.  Cystine is one of the few amino acids that contains sulfur. This allows cystine to bond in a special way and maintain the structure of proteins in the body. Cystine is a component of the antioxidant, glutathione. The body also uses cystine to produce taurine, another amino acid.

Cystine can also be converted into glucose and used as a source of energy. Cystine strengthens the protective lining of the stomach and intestines, which may help prevent damage caused by aspirin and similar drugs. In addition, cystine may play an important role in the communication between immune system cells. Cystine is rarely used as a dietary supplement. N-acetyl cystine (NAC), which contains cystine, is more commonly used as a supplement.

Function and Benefits of Cystine

  • It is helpful in the healing of burns and wounds and helps break down mucus deposits in illnesses such as bronchitis and cystic fibrosis.
  • Cystine is a crystalline, sulphur-containing amino acid, formed from two molecules of the amino acid cysteine
  • Strengthens the protective lining of the stomach and intestines, which may help prevent damage caused by aspirin and similar drugs.
  • Functions as an antioxidant and is a powerful aid to the body in protecting against radiation and pollution.
  • Detoxification from cigarettes and alcohol – cystine has been shown as a detoxification agent to protect the body against damage of alcohol and cigarette smoking, and may be effective in preventing hangovers, as well as preventing liver and brain damage
  • Cystine or the N-acetyl form of cysteine (N-acetylcysteine, or NAC) may be used in place of L-cysteine. NAC aids in preventing side effects from chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Because it increases glutathione levels in the lungs, kidneys, liver, and bone marrow, it has an anti aging effect on the body-reducing the accumulation of age spots, for example. NAC has been shown to be more effective at boosting glutathione levels than supplements of cystine or even of glutathione itself.
Cystine deficiency
  • Deficiency of cystine is rare, as it is found in so many protein foods, although in patients with chronic diseases, the synthesis of cystine from methionine appears to be prevented and could result in a deficiency.
  • People in these groups at risk of cystine deficiency should talk to a medical professional about cystine supplementation.
Rich Food Sources of Cystine
leafy vegetables, bananas, broccoli, dates, nuts, seeds, meat, eggs, and milk.

Time Management: A Proven Blueprint of An Absolute Winner!

where does the time go
where does the time go (Photo credit: cmcbrown)

Life is full of blissful opportunities that give us a fair chance to get better each and everyday. I know you may be saying ‘yeah right’. Just wait, I’m sure you’ll agree with me after you hear a little more. Trust me, its not the easiest task to get into a routine for most people, i get that. I know all about the challenges that come with having to choose to do what most of us want to do but most people want the structure and benefits of a routine only without doing the work on the front end.

There always has and will be a simple way to do almost everything. Now one key to getting into an assassin proof routine is to first INTEND IT! I’ll say it again, its easy to create a routine, but you have to do some prep work to put it together first. All routines start with a great idea! Its well known that all people have the same choices to improve themselves at any given time in life, but only if they want to of course.

In short, we are the only ones who are responsible for our actions. Obstructions will come and go along the way. The most amazing thing is that we have a choice to do better at anytime and that challenges will come as well. Just think about it, when these life altering situations come, we know we have another great reason to make a real change in our lives and for the better too.

Do you think time management will be hard? It will be whatever you make it. I know your schedule is in hyper overload mode plus there is so much going on in the midst of your life. Just hear me out now. Answer this for me: Do you get out of the best fussing and falling all over the place, wishing that you could do something else? Do you gulp down coffee and other stimulants its your last cup of water, only to find that you don’t have any energy in the end? And when you do feel energy, it feels more like an adrenaline rush before a race than real sustainable energy. Hey we have all been there or someone of us have at least.

Take a deep breath and know this, You don’t have to rush to do anything. Its time to take your time back and start living balanced and fruitfully. Do you often wish you could be more organized, only your brain isn’t doing what you had planned for it to do for you, when you need it to? If this is you some of the time, even if its only YOU once a month its time to make a change. Its time to take to the bridge, To move a mountain and master this thing!

You can do this time thing, contrary to what somebody may have told you.  Trust me when I say this… You Don’t have to like organization or schedules to get into the Art of Personal Time Management.  You just don’t. I know you’re probably thinking ‘why should I do anything that I’m not interested in?’ I hear you loud and clear! That’s some of the best logic but that’s not what we’re doing this for. It’s not about logic and comforting our ‘likes’. It’s about one thing and that’s all! YOU want something different. So you gotta change the game to make scoring possible, otherwise you may never get to the next step on your latter of accomplishments. Is it safe to say that you would enjoy a more efficient day? Alright now, let’s talk about how you can get there.

Planning has never been considered a fun thing to do, at least not for the majority of the world anyway. However I’m going to show you why planning is easier than you ever thought it was. Planning is fun, it can be if even it’s not now. Trust me on this,  once you see the benefits of a well thought out and executed plan you, that’s it! You will enjoy the fruits of your labor that much more. Once you have a list of what you want to do better or more efficiently, the next step is to get to work on how you’re going to complete this.

Allow me to give an example: For instance if you want to make a simple change like: get to work earlier, you have to plan a new routine to do it. I know you might be saying to yourself…’But why would I want to do that, get to work early?’. I know you may think I’m crazy by now but hear me out.

If getting to work early was one of your goals, say to yourself: That’s easy! Now measure the pro’s against the co’s to motivate you that much more! Benefits: The early employee gets all the good stuff. I know you’ve heard the phrase ‘the early bird gets the worm.’ If you’ve ever gotten to work early, you know the perks completely outweigh the negative feeling you may have had about going to work in the first place. Still don’t think I’m serious? Be honest now, could you use a few more hours on the job? I mean to make extra money and to get stuff done. Yes!? OK then here’s how you do it.

First you need to decide how early you want to get there. Also work out what you will actually do once you get to work to pass the time as well. Time is money so there is no reason to plan on the fly when you can plan in advance. The Art of Personal Time Management is all about moving step by step.

Plans are subject to changing. Its true, all plans you make can and will change in the future for whatever reason. You can have a plan A and B. And if the situation calls for it then whip out your trusty plan C. Whatever you do, you have to do something. So back to the example. You want to get to work early so you can get a running start on all your work. So here’s a way to sketch out your routine: Decide what to wear, pick it out and lay it out. What skills do you use at work? Now, what will boost or balance your skills for work..in advance? Make sure you plan to get enough sleep, maybe you want to get up within enough time to workout and then maybe eat before you start working or eat when you get to work. Most importantly you will absolutely want to leave your home early enough to get through traffic and into your office smoothly and safely.

As you visualize the potential of accomplishing this. Take a good guess on how much time it will take you to do it. Remember you can always revert to one of your secondary plans B or C, if you need to. But what exactly is a routine anyway? Let’s see it how it’s defined: Routine: A sequence of actions regularly followed; a fixed program. Other ways to describe what a routine is: regular – ordinary – usual – customary – everyday.

At first, it may seem boring and uneventful to get into a routine. But trust me it’s just the opposite of that. It takes great determination to get to the next level in life. And your routine is one way to revolutionize your efforts to getting things done thus getting to the top of your game faster than ever before!

One last tip i want to mention about routines is that your brain is ONLY needed to process why, how to do something and how long it will take to get to get to the next level in your life or project. See once you start your routine and after you allow your brain to do its processing work you can safely ignore it while you’re following your already ‘well thought out’ time management system. Don’t get caught up in the details. Move on swiftly to finishing exactly what you started.

The problem that most people run into when they re-think decisions they have already made and entertain the thought to do something different from their original agenda. We all know our brain is just a tool to process information and carry out micro detailed super-duper important bodily processes.

The problem with thinking about the already- well- thought- out- plan is stopping what one had started. If you stop a routine you may just fall back to the point you started from. So don’t stop without a damn good reason, in fact don’t stop at all..just pause if you need to for a day or so. Planning is a life-long skill that you will always benefit from! Don’t let your dreams fall through the cracks just because the body or brain doesn’t want to complete or do something we want it to do. You Don’t have to follow your thoughts, EVER.

If we want the ultimate success for us, we have to follow through no matter what it takes to get there! Let me ask you one more question…You trust yourself don’t you? I know you said yes, so I’ll say this: If you trust yourself then trust your freakin decisions and respect them to the utmost. Be steadfast! You deserve the best! So give love to yourself by staying focused. If you want it all, you have to give it your all. Bliss and balance to you. What are some struggles you’ve had while trying to stay on your routine, time management game? Please share your thoughts and experiences. Thank you, now go forth and get it done already 🙂

Proline : The amino acid that improves skin texture and aids collagen formation and helps contain the loss of collagen during aging.

Proline was first isolated from casein in 1901, and unlike any of the other amino acids it is readily soluble in alcohol. It is a non-essential amino acid and can be synthesized from glutamic acid and does not require dietary sources.

Proline is one of the cyclic aliphatic amino acids that is a major component of the protein collagen, the connective tissue structure that binds and supports all other tissues. Proline is synthesized from glutamic acid prior to its incorporation into pro-collagen during messenger RNA translation. After the pro-collagen protein is synthesized, it is converted by post-translational modification into hydroxyproline. On a molar basis proline is incorporated into protein at a rate of 4.2 percent with respect to other amino acids.

Proline improves skin texture and aids collagen formation and helps contain the loss of collagen during aging. Collagen in the skin contains hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine, which is formed from proline and lysine, in which ascorbic acid seems to be important in this conversion. Collagen contains about 15% proline. It is also thought to be important in the maintenance of muscles, joints and tendons.

Function and Benefits of Proline

  • Proline is associated with the production of collagen which promotes healthy skin, joints, tendons, and heart muscle.
  •  Proline helps strengthen cardiac muscle.
  • The metabolism of proline is connected to enzymes that require niacin and vitamin C.
  • Helps strengthen cardiac muscle, improves skin texture and aids collagen formation and helps contain the loss of collagen during aging.
  • Proline gives rise to glutamic acid which is an important amino acid. This glutamic acid then gives rise to very important compounds such as glutathione, glutamine, gamma aminobutyric acid, alpha ketoglutarate etc.
  • Proline is interchangeable with the ornithine, thus it can lead to the formation of urea as well. On the other hand, ornithine has also been found to form proline.
  • Proline is also converted to hydroxyproline by post translation reaction that is after it has been incorporated into the protein molecule.
  • Thus, proline is also an important amino acid. Its supplements are also available in the market. These are especially important in those people who are suffering from diseases due to collagen deficiency and also in those suffering from skin disorders and injuries.
  • Collagen in the skin contains hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine, which is formed from proline and lysine, in which ascorbic acid seems to be important in this conversion. Collagen contains about 15% proline. It is also thought to be important in the maintenance of muscles, joints and tendons.
Rich food sources of Proline
  • It is not so needed to be obtained from the food as it is itself formed within our body. But it is richly present in the meat.
  • Asparagus, avocados, bamboo shoots, beans, brewer’s yeast, broccoli rabe, brown rice bran, cabbage, caseinate, chives, dairy products, eggs, fish, lactalbumin, legumes, meat, nuts, seafood, seaweed, seeds, soy, spinach, watercress, whey, whole grains.
  • Vitamin rich foods are also important also.

Symptoms of proline deficiency
None – it is readily obtained and available to the body.

Shou Wu Chih Chia Pudding and The Breakfast Factor!

Sunlight through trees at dawn
Sunlight through trees at dawn (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I was hungry this morning when i woke up but since I ate most of the food in the house over the course of the past few days… I had to make a quick decision on what I would have for breakfast in spite of having just a few items in around. I just went to the store so I don’t know where the food went. Maybe it was these two cats lol, maybe they went through my food stash while I was working on the computer. Anyway, since I got up feeling all lively since the sun is extra bright today. Oh and the sky is blue too! It’s quite beautiful looking out of the window from where I am in the city. Before meditation I did a quick visual scan of what in the house to eat. At first I didn’t come up with anything, well at least not anything that I actually wanted to eat. Just then, I saw it. As I stood in the middle of the kitchen thinking and looking at my soon to be breakfast I was like ahh yeah I wonder what these flavors would be like together.

There are a lot of people on this planet. There are so many people on the planet that i don’t have an estimate for how many at this time. I know one thing though, most people aren’t eating their breakfast! I know you’re probably laughing but you know its true. You might be one of the many that need to take a step back in the kitchen and eat your breakfast. We all have our preferences when it comes what we feel necessary to include into our day. It doesn’t matter what most people are doing with will either eat breakfast or skip it and wait for their favorite time of the day to eat to come along.

I’m proud to say that I’ve alway enjoyed eating breakfast in the morning and i find that i have the great benefits that we have all heard of in grade school too. You remember the benefits of eating breakfast don’t you? Better thinking power, fast thought processing, more energy etc. From all the years that i have talked to other ‘AM breakfast eaters’ Yea i what we were taught in school to be an absolute truth. Before i give you this mind- blowing recipe! I gotta stress that eating breakfast will only give you as much life, benefit and love as there is already in the food that you are currently eating. As far as love..I’m talking about quality, how your food is  prepared and the portion size too. I wonder what your experience is with this? What’s your take on breakfast? Do you love it or do you leave it alone and how does your body feel over all? Please share your thoughts thanks!

Alright here it is! click here for the recipe!

THE EMPTY JOURNEY TO THE PEACEFUL VOID ~ THE JOURNEY FROM PAIN TO PLEASURE Pt. 2

The Journey Through Emptiness

Let me attempt to reduce some of my experiences to words, with the hope that You will meditate consistently until the issues below are revealed to You by Your Own Essence. I have mentioned that the Reason for Coming into Being is ‘Full-Joyment’ of Live or Love or Law. Now ‘why are we in so much pain, whether we have someone to Love or not? Lack of self-satisfaction in Life and Love; I do agree with the Priestesses, is due to lack of Fullness, hence we move around amazingly filled with Emptiness.

It is a sense of loss, deficiency and confusion. We go through Life with heavy hearts and lack that Natural Awareness as if we have lost our Consciousness. We become the Living Dead, i.e. as if the essential part of us has been taken away, removed, gone or it is not fulfilling our needs. Both helplessness and hopelessness become our best unwanted friends. Anger, anxiety, disappointment and irritability simply become extended family members that continue to reduce our self-esteem and quality of Life in us. Depression sometimes sets in and we do not value ourselves because something worthy is gone; so we see no reason to Live and Love, give or share.

Our essential nature is Consciousness. However, when we enter into so-called ‘Relationships’, we give up this sense of Self to the other. We compromise it due to fear of loss, and when the ‘ship’ capsises; something of great importance gets lost. The immediate reaction is a sense of need, and unknown to us is a sense of demand. We become filled with unending expectations to ‘Fullfill’

the emptiness hoping to experience a sense of Bliss. Hey! Simply stay peaceful in Your Emptiness and learn!

The Figment of ‘Relationship Bondage’

When we are unfulfilled, we ascribe value; due to poor judgment; to things, objects and events; as if these had qualities of deep inner joy for us. In this manner we voluntarily cheat ourselves and everyone who believes in such life fully filled with holes. A demand-driven and a need-to-have or an expectation so-called based relationship is the best way to Fall in and out of the same relationship, broken hearted. At their best, relationships are devoid of Love, Life and Natural Law as they are man and woman-made, a dream-state that turns out to be our worst nightmare.

The presence of expectations, needs, judgments, desires and hopes while one is unaware of these, is a clear indication of one who is preoccupied by a fleeting utopia. Instead of Living in the Now, conscious of the ‘Nowness’ of Love and Loving, we imprison ourselves in something external, only existing in our hopeful minds and prospects of the ever-absent and rudderless relation ‘ship’. On board this ‘ship’, we suffer mental anguish and spiritual agony. Harassed by empty deep holes within, we stay hopeful that the ship will bring tranqulising ecstasy. The tranqualiser is the other person and what they are offering, i.e. the need and demand to be appreciated, the hopes to be given something that will make us happy. We wrongfully judge that the thing that makes us feel fulfilled in the other person is actually a part of us. Unconsciously, we mis-identify the things that contribute towards our pleasure as us. It is here that the dead ‘ship’ of ownership, selfishness, greed, selfishness, control, obsession and possessiveness are born. We then move from pain to excitement to pain, and pride ourselves insuch ‘fear-tionships’. Can You relate to suchaformofa Loveless relationship?
